USE COMMUNITY COLLEGES TO YOUR ADVANTAGE
It’s the summer after your freshman year. Most likely you’re back in your hometown, catching up with high school friends and enjoying Mom’s home-cooked meals. A good way to get ahead, and yet still log in some decent pool hours, is to take a class or two at your local community college. Many of these classes meet just one or two days a week, and the semesters only run eight to 10 weeks.
Many universities will only accept transfer credit from a community college until you reach official junior status, so capitalize on this opportunity to get some extra credits under your belt. Community college classes are often less expensive, have small class sizes, and offer an interesting array of subjects, from sign language to flower arranging. Just make sure to pre-approve the classes you sign up for with your university counselor before leaving for the summer, to make sure that the credits will transfer.
